Annual report 2024/25

The annual report 2024-25 summarises the work of the GPhC during the past year.

This year marked the final year of the GPhC 2020–25 strategic plan, during which significant progress has been made in strengthening pharmacy regulation. At the same time, a new five-year strategy has been developed, with the aim of achieving safe and effective pharmacy care at the heart of healthier communities.

Some of the key activities this year included:

  • launching new standards for Chief Pharmacists as part of the programme of work to strengthen pharmacy governance
  • updating our guidance for online pharmacies to strengthen safeguards and protect patients from unsafe prescribing and supply of medicines
  • making inspections more targeted and efficient, focusing on areas of higher risk and key standards for patient safety
  • working to assure the implementation of new standards for the initial education and training of pharmacists, so that from 2026 all new pharmacists will join the register as independent prescribers.

The annual report also includes the annual fitness to practise report and annual accounts.
